About Me
Aaron Ooi is a talented and passionate 18-year-old musician and producer born and raised in Perth. His musical journey began at the age of three with piano lessons, followed by the violin at seven and the oboe at ten. Over the years, Aaron has won various competitions and has performed on numerous stages nationwide.
During high school, Aaron discovered a passion for jazz and has since been performing as a jazz pianist — both with various jazz ensembles and as a solo artist. In addition to performing, he produces music from his home studio, composing soundtracks for videos and podcasts. He has also gained valuable experience working alongside musicians and engineers in Perth-based studios.
Aaron has had the honor of collaborating with world-class musicians such as The Kronos Quartet, Guy Ghouse & Gina Williams, and Nigel Westlake. In 2023, he performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra on the violin, in concerts held in Perth, Sydney, and Canberra — a significant highlight of his musical career and a notable feat, being the only under-18 musician accepted from Perth. This experience allowed him to connect with fellow musicians from across Australia and perform alongside them in world-renowned venues such as the Sydney Opera House.
In 2023–2024, Aaron served as the associate concertmaster of the West Australian Youth Orchestra, as well as the concertmaster for the 50 Years of WAYO concert in July 2024. Through WAYO, Aaron has had the opportunity to play alongside the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and the West Australian Opera Company.
Most recently, in 2024, Aaron earned his Licentiate in Music (Violin Performance) through the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB), a prestigious qualification that recognises professional-level musicianship. In the same year, Aaron achieved a 100% score in his WACE practical music exam. Through these achievements, Aaron’s love and dedication to music shines through — a pivotal step as he continues to pursue a career as a professional performer and educator.
Currently, Aaron is studying jazz piano at WAAPA, while also teaching violin and piano to students throughout Perth. His passion for the arts remains unwavering as he continues to innovate and empower others through music.
